PhotoEffects8 has an interface a lot like the Nik Suite. Not as many presets, but still has tons of options. Certainly worth having, for free! Certainly there are many similar filters, but also slightly different ones. Besides OnOne has the ability to have several layers added at the same time. Was easy to download and looks like a cheapened version of Lightroom meets photoshop.
Some interesting features, but after a quick look through, I don't really like what I see, very noisy and tacky applications. Some are OK. Good for those looking for a free enhancer. I just used it on a dozen of De photographs for a glossy magazine. I did not see any noise, if results are tacky depends on how much I use or overuse the effects.
You have to spend a minute going through the lists to find the ones that are not so "out there". They are there. You also have the option of brushing, layering and so on so that any effect or manipulation applied is not overdone. About overdoing: even if a particular filter is over-the-top, you can adjust it to your liking.
Then, in PS, you can further diminish and blend the effect as it appears as a layer on the top of the original photo.
So no worries there. Standalone app works, it's not there in Photoshop CS6 in the Filter menu. I'm on a mac. You can replace the 32 bit version by a 64 bit version with your current license key. So you can legally download a 64 bit version of your current 32 bit Windows version and replace it. Beware that you must replace the current installation, not put a 64 bit next to the 32 bit version.
I can't understand why folks owning pretty good tech stuff computer, mobile phone, camera etc. It's not so much the processor or memory but this program like so many photo editing programs out there will attempt to make heavy demands on the video card. Indeed, most newer computers ought to be able to run this program. We users aren't needy. It's actually the programs that are getting needy and making demands of us. It's actually a little frustrating sometimes to get a new build and rock along and then programs bloat and you're back where you started.
They are trying to add in features and such to set themselves apart from the competition. Heck, remember when Win3. Unfortunately to run the latest, you need to keep up. Thanks a lot, but your advice can't help me out of my problems, because I still use Vista bit. As to "Perfect Effects 8": I'm not complaining about this software or that it isn't achievable for me.
I'm just surprised indeed, that my equipment has run out of time within 5 years only - and you all know how to keep up with the time. To tell the truth, I'm struggling with todays technology. I feel like a stranger in the world of bits and bytes and pixels. And sometimes I feel like a living fossil from the past. Are there services running in the background even if I don't run the software? DRM, Update, etc. Review on Amazon isn't so exciting. I understand this is FREE but there are a lot of harm a bad software is capable of doing.
This software is completely safe to install. It may not be to evryone's liking, but I like and use it a lot. OnOne Software is a serious company, I used Perfect Effects 4 for a long time as a plugin, Perfect Effets 8 is a great addition to your tools at no cost to you.
As for services running in the background well, your guess is as good as mine. I feel more secure about using PerfectEffects contrary to using apps on Facebook like lots of people do. Your call. Why is this dangerous? It comes directly from the company as opposed to some hosted link which may or many not have bundled "offers". It does not spy on your computer, it will give you the option to update automatically or not like ANY other program , but is just a regular program from a reputed software manufacturer.
I wonder if the trepidation by so many is because they haven't heard of this company. The only thing it will do like any other program is put a note in your registry that you've licensed it and that's that.
Like John above, I've been using software from them and myself started with version 2. Paranoid is good. There's a lot of junk in the world you should keep off of your computer. This does not fall into that category. If you have no need for it and are still paranoid, just forget about it and move on. Honestly its a perfectly valid question and I enjoy sarcasm but in this case it was a bit uncalled for.
Not everyone wants to support DRM and other crappy stuff software companies do. I am very careful about what software get installed on my PC.
No, they are not your typical malware but they are badware to me. Some of them I learned the hard way. Given that no one had answered my simple questions, I believe many of you don't really understand how a software can harm you. I installed it A-OK on Win It works A-OK both as a stand-alone program and as an add-on for Elements IT was nice how it found Elements and hooked itself up to that with no user intervention required.
Overall the software works well and has a usable interface. But it duplicates functions already available in the Topaz filters, and my sense is that the Topaz ones give more concise control and also have a slightly better although similar interface. Based on that I'm sticking with the Topaz stuff. But for people who don't have that or want an all-in-one package, this looks like a good option.
A very welcome offer, especially for an amateur like myself that I don't normally have the luxury of buying expensive professional software. Many thanks! I got it a few months ago too, onOne sent a link to download directly. It works well and has some interesting features. Downloaded the SW, installed it, entered the licence number, all without a hitch. Very happy with the product at this early stage! Not all sweetness and light here, either.
Gives a string of error messages all different and hangs activation. Try the manual method and it shows the activation code but not the installation number to proceed. Not real impressed with the request to turn off anti-virus software to install, either. I think I'll vote with my paranoia and pass for a while. Its a scam. Nobody in this day and age gives away free software unless they want to get something else back from you in return. You get a very pretty page stating you are the proud owner of a Perfect Effects 8 Premium Edition and showing you a long series of numbers as your License Number.
Then when you go back a second time to open it up it asks for a sign on, prompting you to add your license number. That page won't accept the numbers that you're given.
Bottom line is you have a 30 day trial program,.. Absolutely zero issues. Looks more like a ploy to get your email so they can try to sell you their other products, which is fine by me- Google can filter that out in a jiffy.
I got the previous free offer, it works well and easy, while a bit slow. Not a 30 days trial. But the catch is that later they send you offers for more complete software Perfect Photo Suite 8 with discount, that is fine for me. You can take it or not.
No other trick there. BTW it really needs 64 bit version to work properly, I made the upgrade and don't have too much problems as a standalone program, and anyway their customer service is not bad. Not a scam, they made the same offer with version 4. Installation went through without a hitch, didn't have to turn off the Anti-Virus, just adjusted the firewall so it recognized the software and that's it. It's NOT a 30 days version. If it won't install properly for you, contact support.
I've had to do so a few times over the years and they are very good to deal with. This company does not deal in scams. It's no different from others that will contact you with discounts on other products they offer. In fact, you may find that at some point, one of the other plugins they make will be useful to you and at the discounted price will make you happy. You don't have to buy anything if you don't want to. So you can't figure out how to make it work so it must be a scam and DPR should be ashamed?
Amazing how many other people have been able to make it work just fine. If you don't like it, delete it. Many of us find it works just fine, especially if you take a few minutes to actually learn how to use it. To install to PS 6. Turn off Norton for the period of the installation and then turn it back on. Crashes should disappear. Are you say that it installs, but when you run it, it crashes?
If so, you may have to initialize the plugin using file-automate instead of the usual panel. I've been using OnOne software for years and oddly enough it can sometimes be a little twitchy. I myself find it doesn't crash PSCS6 but simply the plugin starts to initialize but never does when accessing from the panel.
Oddly, this version installs beside my previous version happily and it has no issues. And after using PE8 for a while, this is the only twitch I've encountered which is good. I'm not fond of crashes. Can anyone tell me how to download it on a second computer which is allowed according to the licence. I am not sure where to enter the key without going through the entire process again - not that it takes very long.
You have to download it and install it on each system. I suppose you could copy the file to a USB stick I and transfer it instead of re-downloading it.
Install it on the second computer, run the application and it will ask you to enter the licence code just like you did in the first computer Is there anyone here who already had the older version of their full suite v7 or 7. If so, what was your experience? Was it worth the upgrade fee in your opinion? I just downloaded it and had a go with it. Some very useful filters there. While installing I got a pop-up that my video card was not sufficient to run the program.
I clicked OK and I figured the install would abort. But it continued and the program runs perfectly. Wow, I'm very impressed! I'm glad I saw this post and downloaded it!!! It runs as a standalone application as well, so you can save to tiff and access it that way or use it as an external editor for Lightroom or ACDSee Pro 7. Very Cool thanks..
